Making Your Own Sprinkles DIY // STAY GOLD Cake

|| What You'll Need ||

  • A cup or two of water
  • Icing sugar
  • Food colour or edible paint in colour of your choice
  • Piping Bag
  • Wax Paper
Making Your Own Sprinkles DIY // STAY GOLD Cake

|| Directions ||

  • Add about a cup or so of icing sugar to a bowl and begin adding very small amounts of water and stir until your frosting is the right consistency. If you are using food colouring add it now and stir in a drop or two at a time and then pour into your piping bag.
  • On your wax paper begin make LOTS of lines back and forth (this will make the small sprinkles).
  • Then using two hands to grip the piping bag, begin writing your letters or whatever you are putting on your cake ("STAY gold" for us).
  • Let your frosting dry for about an hour or two and then if you are using food paint go ahead and do a couple coats on your sprinkle lines and letters, letting them dry in between.
  • Let your frosting dry overnight or until it hardens.

  • Once your frosting has dried/hardened use a sharp knife to "chop" the lines into little pieces and then using the sharp side of the knife scrape along the wax paper to "peel" it off the paper.
  • Then again using the sharp knife CAREFULLY "peel" your up your letters one at a time.

Then frost your cake and add your sprinkles and letters to decorate!

Faux Glazed Ceramic Pot DIY // Painting Terracotta

Faux Glazed Ceramic Pot DIY // Painting Terracotta // From Gold Blog

We are really starting to get a green thumb and after seeing so many beautiful glazed pots on pinterest and other blogs we really wanted one but they can be really pricey! We had a terracotta pot lying around and decided to give it a bit of an upgrade.

Faux Glazed Ceramic Pot DIY // Painting Terracotta

|| What You'll Need ||

When using terracotta pots you need to seal it before you put a plant in it and/or before you paint it. We sprayed it with a gloss paint and primer inside and outside and let it dry.

Then we mixed pink paint with a bit of yellow and white until we found the right shade of nude/pink we were looking for. You might have to try a few different swatches till you get the desired shade. Once you do add a very small amount of water to the paint to give it a smooth consistency.

Then paint the bottom half of your pot or this is where you can really be creative and do whatever you like. We like the look of imperfections in pottery so we weren't too precious with the lines of the bottom half. Do as many coats as you like depending on if you want a lighter or darker finish. Then let dry.

For the "splatter" look mix a small amount of black acrylic paint and mix with a couple drops of water. Go outside for this next part and don't wear a shirt you love! Take a small paintbrush and dip it in the paint and "flick" it towards the pot and just go for it until you have enough little splatter dots and then let it dry.

Once the paint was dry we did about 3 coats of clear gloss finish but feel free to use less or more depending on the shine you want.
