A Mixed Metals Thanksgiving Tablescape

A Thanksgiving Tablescape + Alexandria Mavis Blog

It is probably no surprise that my absolute favorite part of the holidays is decorating (said every blogger ever). Setting up a tablescape to host good friends is just icing on the cake and this year is no exception. Plus it’s a great reason to use the fancier glassware and fun flatware that we never have time for or are too scared they’ll break (Monica anyone?).

This year I did a some mixed metals (mixed materials really), with the gold brass in the centerpiece bowl, pear salt and pepper shakers and decorative antler and then silver in the flatware and cranberry bowl. I also used horn napkin rings (they feel for fall-esk) and some wood elements in the centerpiece bowl, candle stick holders, small serving board and chargers. For the centrepiece I only had time to run to the grocery store and happen to have some eucalyptus on hand so use what I found in the produce section but I am pretty happy with how it out.

Happy Thanksgiving Friends!

I am totally holiday obsessed, every single holiday I am eager to make memories and always looking for an excuse to decorate. Halloween marks the beginning of my absolute favorite time of year.. the countdown to Christmas! Halloween is one of those funny holidays that is hit or miss depending on where you are in life. As a kid is great because, candy. But now, while Nate and I don’t have kids yet, and a little old for haunted mazes, it’s become sort of a holiday that’s come and gone without much thought. This year I wanted to have have a go at creating a simple but sophisticated “late 20’s halloween” dinner with friends to celebrate the beautiful fall season.

I kept the palette really dark, maybe too dark? I used these “twig like” gold flatware set (sort of witches broom-esk) , black plates, round “web like” chargers (I got mine at Homegoods but see similar here) and found these little pumpkins, you know so it was actually “halloween” themed.

For the floral centerpiece I bought a black wreath base and then used wire to lazily wrap a few amaranthus stems I snagged from my mother in-law’s garden onto the wreath and placed the Candelabra in the center.

Happy Halloween!

4th of July Backyard BBQ Inspiration with Wayfair

Alexandria Mavis

With summer now in full swing and the 4th of July just around the corner all I want to do is have a backyard shindig! Wayfair asked me to share all my backyard design fave's and how to style a great backyard to host a fabulous 4th of July, summer BBQ's and outdoor cocktail parties.

The Shep indoor/outdoor area rug will act as an anchor for the space. The Teak Wood Round Stool can double as a side tables and extra seating when needed. The Anson Steel Fire Pit will draw everyone around and set the perfect atmosphere. I love the Casto Chaise Lounge because it can be used in door and outdoor (I'm actually, getting one for my bedroom). And believe me, everyones going to be fighting over who gets the Maura Double Chaise Lounge while watching the fireworks. Happy 4th of July Friends!
