A couple weeks ago was my [Alexandria's] 1 year Anniversary! We spent the weekend in Brisbane, the big city about an hour north of Gold Coast. The first day we spent time in Westend, CBD and the museums.
Merriweather was one of our favorites.. great lunch and great coffee! Really close to the museums as well.
Westend is a lot of restaurants and shops we didn't spend much time here but our favourite shop was The Happy Cabin.
Gallery of Modern Art // Queensland State Library
The Gallery of Modern Art was absolutely stunning! I could have sat in those gardens for hours with a good book. The architecture of the building was just so gorgeous! And then the all the art on top of that! My brain was in overdrive just trying to take it all in.
I was browsing over the State Library website and the second I saw the words "Hot Modernism" it became priority number one! They had a great exhibit of Queensland's mid-century architecture. Nate wasn't too keen until I told him it would be like IKEA but with mid-century furniture and he got on board!
CBD // Brisbane
This was probably our favorite spot a little hidden gem in the heart of the downtown Brisbane called Strauss. You will only find this place if you are looking forward and we kinda liked that about it. It was 6pm on a Friday night in the middle of the CBD and yet it was so quiet while we enjoyed drinks before dinner.
Then we wondered into several places looking for a good dinner spot and ended up at this Christmasey looking building. It was actually a really nice casino and we ended up at their Asian restaurant Fat Noodle.
I cannot express in words how sore our feet were after all the walking that happen this first day. Luckily it was our Anniversary weekend so Nate was more inclined then most days to give me a nice long foot rub.
